IELTS Voice and Accent training in Prestige Institute, Pondicherry

Getting well trained in voice and accent is mandatory nowadays to secure yourself a career in Business process outsourcing fields because the employees of these fields work for western countries where accent and voice are given the first preference by the citizens to speak regarding any project.

Prestige Institute recommends many tips for improving your skills in voice and accent for IELTS, for example: Give priority to the clarity of your speech by slowing down the speed and make sure your intended speech is delivered as needed. Secondly, speak louder but not deafening though; this will boost your confidence and clear delivery of the accent as well. Observe how a native speaker pronounces each and every word, concentrate on their mouth and lip movement for the pronunciation of English words.

Both British, as well as an American accent, could be used while speaking English as both are widely accepted by the western countries. Sounds of English vowels such as a, e, i, o, u are to be taken care as these are the ones which determine the accent of the words as in English less than words are with no vowels; with these as an exception, all the other words contain vowels in it.

The challenging aspect in matching with the accent is the syllables of every word which we might miss while pronouncing the word and it may give a very different meaning far from the original word we intend to speak. At Prestige institute, we have dedicated tutors to handle classes for such different accents.

Learn Parts of Speech with 8 Example

8 An easy way to Learn Parts of Speech with an example by Prestige Institute

The sentences structured in English will always contain parts of speech in it, so to develop a sentence on our own; we need to understand the meaning and principles behind the parts of speech. There are eight parts of speech such as noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction and interjection.

1) The noun is always used for describing a name, place, and thing.
E.g.: Harry happily brought a little lamp (Harry and lamp are nouns).

2). The verb is needed for representing the action or state of being, taking the previous
example: the word “brought” is a verb as it explains what Harry did.

3). Adjective usually gives us more information about the noun related to it, considering the example Harry brought a little lamp, the word “little” describes the noun lamp, and therefore, little is the adjective.

4). Adverb: similar to an adjective, adverb provides us more information about a verb, so we know that Harry brought the little lamp happily, and happily describes how Harry brought, so happily is the adverb.

5). Proposition describes the location of a noun or its relation with another noun, e.g.: Table is located near the wall, the word “near” indicates the location of the table.

6). Pronoun: To minimize repeating the noun frequently, the pronoun is used to refer it after the noun being mentioned earlier.

E.g.: Harry brought a lamp, with which, he came to the shed. Here he refers to Harry, a noun which has been previously mentioned.

7). Conjunction: to join two sentences or phrases, and to make it as a complex or compound sentence, e.g.: Jones ate the apple because he needs to maintain his health. Jones ate the apple; he needs to maintain his health; were two sentences which are joined together using a conjunction “because”.

8). Interjection:  it`s an exclamation or phrase which denotes a strong feeling,

 e.g.: Hey! How are you?

At Prestige Institute, we teach each of these parts of speech with further explanation and practical exercise; so that it will be easy for the students to understand it and use it proficiently.

How to Write effective English writing?

Tips for effective English writing by Prestige Institute in Pondicherry

Effective writing in English depends on whether the content is intended to be formal, semi-formal or informal with respect to the receiver or reader of that content. The content should be easily understandable to the intendant receiver instead of being so for the sender alone. Information provided is to be coherent and should be in a sequential manner like the dailies and not like a very complicated crime novel. Making multiple paragraphs depending on the content will be effective and lengthier sentences could be reduced so as to make the reader easily infer the content.

Avoid unnecessary word and repetition of the content in order to avoid reducing the reader`s interest in the content. Always develop the sentences positively as it will raise the receiver`s eagerness to read the next line and complete the whole content.

Considering the Active and Passive Voice in grammar mainly the punctuations will put forth important points to be noted down by the intended receiver as sentence mainly relays on grammar and punctuations. If it is to be an email, then the subject of it should be a precise sentence of the whole content.

Prestige Institute offers a dedicated syllabus to enable the above-mentioned skills in writing so that a candidate could effectively use English as the mode of communication in writing in his day to day life. In addition to that, the institute also has many practice test and exercises which will stand as a pillar for a candidate to improve his writing and Speaking skills. Each test is developed with respect to the practical environment.

What is Active and Passive Voice

Active and Passive Voice

Developing a sentence with active and passive voice (a part of English grammar) depends on which part of the sentence we are going to give importance, whether it is the object to which an action has been rendered to or the person by whom the action has been carried out. The former is the passive voice and the latter is active voice. Since they are the basics in communication, Prestige institute insists on being proficient in these aspects along with other parts of grammar.

Passive Voice: English classes were handled by Prestige Institute

Considering the above example, each sentence has a subject, verb, and an object. Active voice is developed in this sequence: subject-verb and object, whereas passive voice puts object first, followed by verb and subject. In addition to that, considering the verb part of these two voices, past participle of the verb are used for passive voice so as the stress is on the object rather than being in the subject as active voice. Words such as ‘by, with, to’ are also used along with the sentence if needed while converting an active voice to passive voice.  It is not mandatory that a subject is to be mentioned in passive voice as the stress in on the object alone if they are like the statements as given below. Therefore they are used when it is not important to know by who the actions are to be performed.

e.g: Racism is should be banned.

At our Prestige Institute, we teach the basics of Tenses and we don’t go in depth on voices. However, we do teach passive voices corresponding to few commonly used tenses.
